A selection of radio board members attended College Broadcasting Inc. St. Louis the last week in October. CBI is a multimedia conference focused on provided attendees with classes and information to better their radio and media experiences, in hopes of bringing home tips and tricks to better the station. Nathan Laursen brought with him station manager Brandon Ellis, programming director Maggie Mattinson, events director Sierra Benson and tech director Austin Roundy to attend these classes and share what they learned with the rest of student media.
“I wanted to make sure no one attended the same classes so we could really learn as much as we could,” said Ellis. “It was important we experienced all we could.” Ellis himself had attended many promotions classes so he could return and train Aggie Radio’s promotions director. Mattinson attended a class in which she learned how to better understand and be an ally to the LGBT+ community.
Ellis and Roundy facilitated a round table during one class about live events and festivals. Ellis mentioned that it was important to him to be able to lead a discussion and share information he was very passionate about.
“Listening to everyone’s successes and failures and just what they had learned from media experience was really cool,” said Ellis. “I felt honored to be able to respond to people’s questions.
