Teach/Research Abroad Opportunities

At current USU partner affiliations

Utah State University has more than 30 agreements with international Partner Institutions, throughout the world on most continents. Most of these agreements are written to include the exchange of students and faculty. Other similar resources abroad include ISEP and Affiliated Providers .

The Office of Study Abroad can put you in contact with current partner programs, if you are considering a teaching or research abroad possibility, or if you are interested in a faculty-led program abroad. Please feel free to contact us about the opportunities.

If you are considering the options for international living and learning experiences, please see the Travel and Health and Safety sections of our website for additional helpful hints and recommendations. A good source of international travel information, from obtaining a passport, country specific information and entry requirements or registering with the State Department while abroad, is available at the State Department website: www.travel.state.gov. Please note that when traveling or living abroad, it is also advisable to make sure that you have adequate medical insurance coverage. It is possible to extend your current USU medical coverage to include medical evacuation and repatriation of remains coverage. Please contact Human Resources (formerly Personnel) for insurance benefit questions and more information.

Please refer to the USU Office of International Affairs for additional resources and information for faculty.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

With each affiliated partner, USU has an MOU established. The MOU, or an addendum to an MOU, such as a Student Exchange Agreement, sets the parameters for student and faculty exchange, as well as other opportunities for academic and research collaboration. Several of the current MOU's have been developed for particular departments or colleges. For example, an MOU with University of Innsbruck is primarily for the exchange of students or faculty, and academic cooperation within the USU College of HASS Department of English, and specifically with the USU American Studies program.

The USU Office of Study Abroad is always interested in expanding viable study abroad opportunities for USU students. Often USU faculty connections abroad can lead to mutually advantageous relationships with potential partner institutions. If you are interested in exploring such possibilities, please refer to the USU Office International Affairs for sample MOU's, procedures, and criteria for establishing a new agreement.

Some points to consider in establishing new student exchange agreements:

  1. How easy is it to access information about this institution online? Academic calendar, course offerings, etc.
  2. Can students contact the host institution to receive sufficient information prior to arrival?
  3. What is the primary language of instruction? Can USU students study courses in English? W
  4. What kind of programs would appeal to USU students?
  5. What kind of arrangements can be made for housing?
  6. What kind of assistance or services can be provided to students once they arrive on the host institution campus?
