Incoming Exchange Students

How to Apply

Incoming exchange students are students who attend international partner institutions with whom Utah State University (USU) has an agreement to send students to and from the institution abroad. Incoming exchange students should first contact their home institution for eligibility requirements.

To complete the application process please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete an Incoming Student Application and J1 Student Visa Forms
  2. Print and complete all pages of J-1 Student Visa Forms.
  3. The following application pieces need to be mailed in hard copy from your home university
    • Official transcripts in English

      Proof of English Skills

    Undergraduates: minimum TOEFL score of 525, TOEFL iBT score of 71, (Institutional TOEFL is not accepted) or an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.0 on each subscale. Students who do not have the USU minimum test score requirements must take the USU intensive English test the first day of the semester ($50).

    Graduates: A score of 213 or higher is required on the computer-based test. A score of 79 or higher is required on the Internet-based test or 6.0 or higher on the IELTS. Students who do not have the USU minimum test score requirements must take the USU intensive English test the first day of the semester ($50).

We must receive all completed documents in a timely manner so that you can apply for a student visa before your arrival at USU.

Fall or Academic Year Deadline: March 15th
Spring Deadline: October 15th

NOTE: Exchange students are not seeking a degree at Utah State. If you are a student who wants to be admitted to a degree program at Utah State, please visit the Office of International Scholars and Students website, for more information about the degree application process.
