How To Bid
|
Surplus items are offered to the public approximately four times a year through the public bid process. State law, however, requires that before items are offered to the public campus departments, school districts, cities and other public agencies be given the opportunity to obtain any excess items. Therefore, before the sale is opened to the public, departments and other government agencies are given approximately two weeks to screen and select items for the price marked as "minimum bid".
|
| Sale notices are sent to each campus department and many other public agencies prior to the public screening period. Campus departments may purchase items using a valid on campus purchase card. Other government agencies must use a check or purchase order. During the government screening period government agencies may purchase items without bidding by paying the price marked on the item. During the public sale, however, all items that require bids must be bid on whether for government or private purchase. |

University employees and other government employees must purchase items (for personal use) during the public bid process. During the public sale items are marked as either a bid item requiring a sealed bid, or, in the case of most items, "CASH & CARRY" marked with a green price tag. When an item is marked with the green tag it is available for immediate purchase for the price marked on the green tag. All items that did not sell during the public bid sale remain on sale until approximately one (1) week prior to the next government/department sale. |
Bid items are marked with a "minimum bid" price tag and require a sealed competitive bid in order to purchase during the formal bid sale. Bid forms are available at the sale location during the public sale. A 10% deposit is required in order to secure your bid on an item. A check for the amount of the deposit is preferred. If you are not the successful bidder your deposit check will be returned to you by mail. Generally, items that require bids are those such as vehicles, farm equipment, better computer systems and other such items that are sometimes difficult to establish a price for. The bid process allows market forces to establish pricing.
