Classes have started up again, and so has Swing Club! Lessons start at 7:00, as usual, but this semester, club will be held on Wednesday nights in HPER 102. As usual, the first two weeks are free, so bring a friend!

May 28, 2008:
As a reminder, in case of bad weather, club will be held in the student center just west of the Sunburst Lounge. Otherwise, come and join us outside on the patio. Check your email the day of club if you're unsure about the location.

May 15, 2008:
Classes may be over for the summer, but the swing club is still up and going. Join us at the usual time on Thursday nights at the patio between the TSC and University Inn for lessons and dancing.

April 24, 2008:
Congratulations to the new 2008 Swing Club council members! Check out the Club Council page for details. If you're interested in applying for any of the remaining positions, talk to Rebecca.

February 15th, 2008:
It's finally here!! The Harlem Nights 2008 extravaganza! Starting from tonight at 5:00pm going almost non-stop 'til Sunday at 4:00am. This is clearly the largest Swing Dance event Cache Valley has ever seen. Go to the Harlem Nights 2008 homepage to find out more.

January 28th, 2008:
You may (or may not) have noticed that our main page has been given a face lift. We hope you like it. Don't forget that this Saturday is the first Saturday in February, so you know what THAT means... Dancing at ELITE HALL!!!! You can find directions and event details on the Elite Hall page.

January 15th, 2008:
Happy new year! We have lots of plans for this year. First, club is on Thursdays if you didn't catch the memo. It's still free this week, but will cost $10 for the semester. If you want a shirt, it's an additional $10.

Also, we finally have all of the Elite Hall Benefit Dance pictures in. Feel free to take a gander.

And lastly (but certainly not leastly), our Harlem Nights 2008 plans are coming along just fine. We have the new website up-to-date and ready for you to browse. The cost for the whole weekend is only $80. You really don't want to miss it!

November 13th, 2007:
You may or may not have noticed our new logo(s) at the top of the page. Nifty, eh? Also, five new picture pages have been added to the site! You can check them out here.

November 9th, 2007:
Now would be a good time to start thinking about attending our Harlem Nights 2008 taking place this coming February. You can find out more information here.

Secondly, we've added a few new accessories to the website. Feel free to explore and find out what they are.

October 17th, 2007:
Since this Friday is Fall Break at USU, the HPER building will be closed. Therefore, those of us who will still be around we will be wandering over to a corn maze! Meet in front of the HPER building at 7:00pm and we'll all car-pool over to the Heritage Center. If you're a club member, we'll pick up $2 of your entrance fee (that is, if you're with us when we pay to get in). You're in charge of the rest of the fee ($2 - $4, depending on group rates).

Secondly, Friday, October 26 is our Hallo-swing Dance!!! This is where we come to club all dressed up as spooks, ghosts, weirdos, christmas trees, etc. There will be competitions and prizes for the winners!!!

October 11th, 2007:
As you may or may not have noticed, the website has now been changed. Don't worry. It's for the better. There are a few bugs we're still working out and they'll be fixed as soon as we can figure out how. Feel free to explore the site and report any bugs or broken links to the webmaster.
Also, this site is best viewed with JavaScript enabled. If the border doesn't show, then this applies to you.

October 5th, 2007:
Tomorrow night at Elite Hall: LADIES NIGHT!!  So ladies, join Jill "Rosebud" Sundberg at 7:00pm for a free Jazz lesson! Then follow it up at 8:00 with a $3, 3.5 hour bout of pure dancing (The guys will be showing up after 8:00).

Also, be sure to check out the Salt Lake Invitational which is taking place today and tomorrow.

Thirdly, next weekend is Rockin' In Rhythm at BYU: A whole day of dancing and workshops by nationally acclaimed Swing instructors.

October 4th, 2007:
Our website will be undergoing a major overhaul in the next couple days. It will be almost nothing like this current site, except all major addresses will remain. The site will, however, be prettier, more navigatable, and much, much cooler. Along with the facelift, we're going to be removing many of the Harlem Nights pictures. If you want them, get them while you can.
September 24th, 2007:
The parade was a hit! If you missed it, oh well... there's always next year. We'll have a lot of pictures to add to the website soon.

Also, the calendar page has been updated (fianlly). It now works remarkably well in both IE and Firefox, so go check it out.

September 17th, 2007:
Homecoming Week!!! Tonight we'll be painting the street from about ~9:30pm 'til ~11:30pm. Meet somewhere on 700 North (usually near the HPER building) and wear clothes you would have a paint fight in...

Secondly, We've got a position in the Homecoming parade this Saturday morning. More details to come. However, in lieu of the parade, the J-J-Jubilee will be slightly changed to accomodate those persons who wish to dance down Main Street. The Air-step workshop will be held at 2pm instead of in the morning.

September 11th, 2007:
Swing Team auditions will be September 15th at 11:00am in HPER 102. Click here for the information and guidelines sent to us by the instructors.

This just in: Jazzy J will be in town on September 22nd (that's a Saturday) to teach us some of the coolest stuff that ever happened in Swing dancing! More information can be found on the Events page.

September 9th, 2007:
We'd like to wish a warm HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our current website.  It is now one year old!  (hold for applause)  I guess you'd like to know a few statistics we've collected in the past year (sorry about the cookies).

In that year, we've had:
  • 4142 visits
  • 17,809 pageviews (~4 views per visitor)
  • 3758 unique visitors
  • visits from every continent (except Antarctica... stupid research stations...)
  • visits from 46 out of 50 US states and 43 out of 48 European countries (come on, Vermont and Luxembourg!)
These statistics aren't extremely spectacular, but they're not bad for a site that's not selling something, offering some sort of service, or offering free music downloads.  Thank you for your continuing support!

August 28th, 2007:
We have "fixed" the calendar page so those using Firefox can view the calendar. The only problem is it does not load correctly on the first try (I'm working on that) but if you select a different month from the drop-down menu, it will generate the calendar.

Secondly, September 5th-8th is the Celebrate America Big Band show! Student night is on Wednesday the 5th. Click here for the official website (Careful, it's got sound).

August 23rd, 2007:
Today marks the last official Swing Club of Summer 2007! Next week, plan on coming Fridays from 7-9:30pm in HPER 102. I know, Fridays are kind of a lame day to hold Swing Club, but that's all we could get with the building scheduling. Anyhoo, we are working on finding a better place/time to hold club dances. If you have any suggestions, feel free to email them to Ben (council page). In the meantime, see you Fridays!

June 25th, 2007:

April 24th, 2007:
The Elite Hall Benefit Dance was a HIT! We packed that floor the whole night! I think Elite Hall will live on for a few more years. We REALLY need to do this more often! If you missed this dance, you can still make our regular (but definitely not more important) dances on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.

March 25th, 2007:

March 18th, 2007:
A site map has been added to the website. Also, we've added a dumb little crossword puzzle to the Miscellaneous page. It's not very intelligent, but it's kind of fun. You might even learn something to boot!

February 27th, 2007:
More pictures have been added to the Harlem Nights 2007 Pictures page. They're worth stopping by to take a gander. Secondly, plans are still underway for the Elite Hall Special Events (High School Dance and Benefit Dance). Don't forget to make an appearance and support Elite Hall.

February 21st, 2007:
We have a new upcoming event: High School Night at Elite Hall!
This will take place at thje regular place/time on Saturday, March 3rd, 2006 from 7:00-11:30pm. Lessons (from 7-8pm) will be free and the cost for the dance (8-11:30pm) will be $4. If you have a valid USU Swing Club ID card, entry is only $1! Don't miss out on this!

February 17th, 2007:
The Harlem Nights 2007 Pictures page is now up! Please note that it is a work in progress. Some people still have yet to finish sending in their pictures, so these pages are far from complete. You can find the link on the Media page.
Videos will be coming soon.

February 9th, 2007:
We'd lile to thank Ben and Jill Sundberg for their extraordinarily hard and fabulous work on putting together the most successful Harlem Nights Dance ever! Join us next year, same bat time, same bat channel for an even better event.
P.S. Pictures will be up soon on the Media page.

January 30th, 2007:
There has been a minor change in the workshop schedule:
STORYTIME WITH FRANKIE IS NOW IN HPER 215!!  THERE WILL BE NO SOUL FOOD (sadly) DUE TO HPER REGULATIONS!!

In further news, we have the Hellzapoppin' schedule up. You can find it here

January 23rd, 2007:
Harlem Nights is coming closer!  The locations of all dances and workshops have been nailed down.  Also, we have a tentative list of the workshop order. Things might change, depending on what the instructors want. This is going to be soooo cool! You do NOT want to miss it!

January 4th, 2007:
Happy New Year!   We have now moved from the December Pre-pay price to the January Pre-pay price for Harlem Nights.  Don't worry if you missed December pricing.  This is still cheaper than paying at the door. Check out the Harlem Nights page (link is on the 'Events' page).

December 14th, 2006:

Two new pages have been added. Because of the "blog" nature of the news posts and they don't get deleted, anything from too long ago will be transferred to the "old news" in the "Archives" page for those who are bored enough to read them.

November 5th, 2006:
If you missed the Swing Into Winter Workshops, you'd better repent and come to the Harlem Nights dance in February, because you totally missed out on a kickin' (sometimes literally) event. The workshops were well filled out and the dance at Elite Hall was something else. Also, we should recognize the three finalist couples from the October Madness! tournament: Ben and Jill Sundberg, Justen and Cory Hansen, and Jimmy and Holly Suisse... incidentally, all married couples. All three danced superbly, pulling out moves never previously seen in our scene. It turns out, though, that even though it was neck and neck and neck, somebody had to win. Jimmy and Holly barely pulled ahead and took first in the competition. Personally, I think it was because of the "limbo" move.

October 30th, 2006:
Directions to the Friday dance at the Golden Skillet have been added to the Places to Dance page.  Now you won't be driving around wondering why there's a dance club in the middle of the Great Salt Lake.  Also, we're nearing the end of the October Madness! tournament.  We will be having the last few matches this coming Thursday before we have the Finals on Saturday at Elite Hall.

October 29th, 2006:
I guess that about wraps it up for Ron's Harvest Moon Lindy Showdown.  For those of you who were unable to make it, give a huge congrats to our very own Isaac Ashby for winning the Pro-Am Lindy Hop tournament, Allan Ambrose for winning the Open Lindy Hop event, and Justen Hansen for totally ruling the floor in the Jack and Jill(?) competition.  Go USU Swing Club!

October 26th, 2006:
The Halloween Dance was a success.  For those who weren't there, too bad.  You missed out.  Also, pictures of the Homecoming proceedings have been added to the Media page.

October 23rd, 2006:
Information for the Winter Workshops and the Halloween Dance have been added to the Events page.  Go ahead and check them out. Also, the Harvest Moon Ball sponsored by Ron is this coming weekend. You can find the information on the Swing Utah Forums.

October 20th, 2006:
The October Madness! is continuing its rampage through the club. If you haven't been this month, it's well worth your while. We're having at least two competitions each week, small contests, prizes, and all sorts of just plain craziness.

October 19th, 2006:
We have been moved to a new server and are in the process of learning how to deal with different protocols and methods of updating our website.  If you see this post, it means I successfully got it working.  Fortunately, I believe our address will remain the same.

October 4th, 2006:
Saturday, October 7th meet at 10am in the Joann's parking Lot (~200 S Main). Wear either vintage or your club shirt. You do NOT want to miss the only time you'll ever get to dance down a mile of Main Street without the risk of becoming roadkill.

Sept. 29, 2006:
