Women's Self Defence is placed as a special item because of the need of women and because of the special efforts the U.S.U. Tae Kwon Do has made to help in this regard.
Women are much more likely to be targeted on the street by criminals and six times more likely to be assaulted by an intimate partner than men. Thus women have a greater need to learn self protection methods. Martial Art training is one aspect of that learning.
Tae Kwon Do training as taught by the U.S.U. Tae Kwon Do Club is an effective means of self defense for women. Tae Kwon Do training emphasises kicking techniques. Legs are longer and stronger than arms, and with practice, can be as fast or faster than the arms. Thus using kicking techniques a women can be at the advantage over her opponent. Our Tae Kwon Do training also entails special "Self Defense" techniques, learning how to get out of a variety of chokes, holds, joint locks etcetera which is a vital part of a self defense training regimen. For more information on Women's self-defense contact the local chapter of CAPSA -- Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse. They hold women's self defense seminars every quarter.
