Marty began his professional career as a middle school special education teacher. After several years in the
classroom, he came to the Center for Persons with Disabilities to work on a variety of projects including distance
education for inservice teachers, special education compliance monitoring and substance abuse prevention training
for teachers on the Navajo Nation.
Currently, Marty is the Assistant Director for Policy and Development at the Utah Center for Persons with
Disabilities and is the director of the Utah Assistive Technology Program. In addition, he serves as the Policy
Director for the National Center on Disability and Access to Education (NCDAE), as a technology policy consultant
for the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, the Utah Liaison for the Rocky Mountain ADA Center
(Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center--DBTAC), Chair of the Utah Interagency Outreach Training
Initiative Steering Council, and the Assistant Director of the Center for Technical Assistance for Excellence in
Special Education (TAESE). In these various roles he works with state and federal policy makers on a variety of
disability issues including education technology, health and disability policy, special education, employment, and
access to services by ethnic minority populations.
Marty earned his degrees in special education, secondary education and disability studies from Utah State
University.
