Utah State Sweeps Mountain West Cross Country Athletes of the Week Awards

Wednesday, Sep. 20, 2017

Utah State senior Dillon Maggard and junior Alyssa Snyder have been named the Mountain West Cross Country Athletes of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.

It is the first weekly MW award for Snyder and first weekly conference cross country award for Maggard, having earned two MW track & field honors last season.

Last week, Snyder, a junior from Coalville, Utah, won the individual title at the BYU-hosted Autumn Classic with a personal-best time of 16:28.0 in the women's 3-mile race. Snyder finished 18 seconds ahead of second place, BYU's Laura Young, who placed 72nd at last year's NCAA Cross Country Championships. Snyder's first-place finish was key in Utah State upsetting No. 10 BYU on their home course, as Utah State won the team event with 23 points, ahead of BYU's 32. Utah State also defeated in-state schools Weber State, Dixie State and Westminster.

Maggard, a senior from Kirkland, Wash., placed second at the same BYU Autumn Classic in the men's 4-mile race with a personal-best time of 19:26.8. Maggard's second-place finish helped the Aggies secure a second-place team finish with 50 points, behind No. 6 BYU's 19 points. Utah State finished ahead of Weber State, Dixie State and Westminster.

Utah State’s men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Lehigh-hosted Paul Short Run on Friday, Sept. 29. The meet, which is slated to begin at 7:30 a.m. (MT), will take place at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
