American Drama "Awake and Sing!" Takes Stage at the Caine Lyric Theatre
Wednesday, Sep. 27, 2017
Awake and Sing! by American playwright Clifford Odets runs at 7:30 p.m. September 26-30 at Utah State University’s Caine Lyric Theatre in downtown Logan with an additional matinee September 30 at 2 p.m.
The Bergers, a three-generation Jewish family living in a Bronx apartment during the Depression, live in a frenetic, pressured existence in this crowded dwelling. The show recalls the founding of our country as the land of opportunity for immigrants who have an enduring belief in the American dream.
Odets, widely seen as a successor to Nobel Prize-winning playwright Eugene O’Neill, is known for writing socially relevant dramas. His work inspired the next several generations of playwrights, including Arthur Miller, Neil Simon and David Mamet.
In Awake and Sing! Odets contrasts materialistic ideals and the importance of money in society while showing how these things affect human lives and the way they live them.
Tickets for Awake and Sing! are $13 adults, $10 seniors/youth, $8 USU faculty/staff and free for USU students with ID. For more information or tickets, contact the CCA Box Office in room L101 of the Chase Fine Arts Center on USU’s campus, call 435-797-8022, or go online to cca.usu.edu.
