Cellist Matt Zalkind at USU
Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012
Utah State University’s Caine College of the Arts presents guest cellist Matt Zalkind in concert Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall at USU’s Logan campus.
“This concert is a great opportunity for people to come out of their comfort zone and explore different styles of music,” said guest cellist Zalkind.
Zalkind is currently finishing his doctorate of musical arts degree in cello performance at the University of Michigan and is at USU filling in for Anne Francis Bayless of the Fry Street Quartet during her absence. Zalkind will remain at USU until Bayless returns in December and then immediately joins the Harlem Quartet, based out of New York City, to perform year-round.
Accompanying Zalkind is Jason Hardink, pianist and principle symphony keyboard player for the Utah Symphony and artistic director of the NOVA Chamber Music Series. The two will perform the A major Sonata (1770) by Luigi Boccherini, Violoncelle Totale (2011) by Krzyszstof Penderecki, Suite Italienne (1925) by Igor Stravinsky and F Major Sonata (1886) by Johannes Brahms.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 seniors and youth, $5 USU faculty and staff and free for USU students with ID. For more information or tickets, visit the CCA Box Office in room 139-B of the Chase Fine Arts Center on USU’s campus, call 435-797-8022 or go online to the college’s website.
