Performance groups from the Utah State Department of Music collaborate for the holiday concert "Joyful & Triumphant" Tuesday, Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m., Kent Concert Hall, Chase Fine Arts Center.

Utah State University’s Music Department presents “Joyful & Triumphant,” a concert offering of holiday music, Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall, located in the Chase Fine Arts Center on USU’s Logan campus.

“This is a fantastic gala celebration of holiday music featuring student vocalists and musicians throughout the department,” said James Bankhead, music department head in the Caine College of the Arts at USU.

The USU choirs, symphony orchestra, jazz orchestra, percussion ensembles, chamber groups, jazz ensembles and brass ensembles will all perform in the concert, along with the Caine College of the Arts professional music touring ensemble Out of the Blue.

“This is the first time in recent memory the entire music department has collaborated on a concert like this,” said Michael Huff, director of special programs in the music department. “With more than 300 students performing, this is a tremendous undertaking.”

With performances including Jingle Bells, Feliz Navidad, Rocking around the Christmas Tree and Joyful & Triumphant, the concert is sure to fill the hall with holiday joy, said Huff.

The featured medley Joyful & Triumphant is a classic holiday compilation arranged by Michael Davis, a retired chief musical arranger for the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington D.C.

“Davis is a true master of this kind of music,” said Bankhead. “Joyful & Triumphant is one of my all-time favorite holiday pieces and I’m pleased to present this special arrangement to Cache Valley at a concert I hope to make an everlasting tradition at USU.”

Tickets for “Joyful & Triumphant” are $15 general admission, $10 seniors and youth, $5 USU faculty and staff and free for USU students with valid ID. For tickets visit the Caine College of the Arts Box Office in room 139-B in the Chase Fine Arts Center, call 435-797-8022 or see the college website.
