Utah State Announces Changes to BYU Football Series

Utah State University Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Barnes announced Friday [July 26, 2013] that its current three-game scheduling agreement with BYU in football has changed, while at the same time adding another game to the series.

Under the new contract, Utah State and BYU will play a home and home series during the next four years, replacing the current deal that had USU hosting the Cougars once and playing in Provo twice.

In all, Utah State will host BYU on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, and on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, on Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium and face the Cougars in Provo on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, and on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016.

“This is an important scheduling adjustment because it begins a home and home series, which has been our goal and fills a hole in our home schedule in 2015,” said Barnes. “We are excited to keep this historic in-state rivalry going and I appreciate working with BYU Athletics Director Tom Holmoe to get this done now.”

All-time, Utah State and BYU have faced one another 82 times as the Aggies are 34-45-3 against the Cougars, including an 18-15-2 record in Logan, a 16-27-1 record in Provo and a 0-3 record at neutral sites.

Overall, BYU is Utah State’s second-most played rivalry behind Utah (110) as the Aggies and Cougars have played one another every year except nine (1943, 1944, 1945, 1995, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007) dating back to its inaugural meeting in 1922.
