Utah State University English professor Joyce Kinkead was named Utah’s 2013 Carnegie Professor of the Year at a ceremony Nov. 14 in Washington, D.C. With that announcement, she became USU’s 13th professor to earn that honor. The award acknowledges and honors the nation’s best undergraduate educators.

The USU campus is invited to acknowledge Kinkead’s achievement at a reception, hosted by USU President Stan Albrecht and USU Executive Vice President and Provost Noelle E. Cockett, Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the David B. Haight Alumni Center. A presentation and comments begin at 4:15 p.m. All are invited.

Kinkead, whose career includes both teaching and administrative responsibilities, is so widely respected on the USU campus that several spaces in Merrill-Cazier Library note her support and accomplishments. There is a “Wall of Fame” that spotlights students and honors Kinkead’s commitment to undergraduate research. The wall was unveiled as she stepped aside as director of USU undergraduate research program to return full time to teaching.

“She has been selfless in answering the call to service the university over the years,” said President Albrecht. “She turned down my recent request to return to an administrative role in Old Main, saying that she always believed the best on job on campus was that of a professor. Frankly, she has always been a faculty member at heart. Deriving great pleasure in her work as a teacher and mentor, Joyce’s commitment to undergraduates is unbounded.”
