Utah State University Hosts 2013 Tri-State Band Symposium November 26, 2013Writer: Whitney Schulte, 435-797-9203, whit.schulte@gmail.comContact: Tom Rohrer, thomas.rohrer@usu.edu Utah State University Hosts 2013 Tri-State Band Symposium Public is Invited to Two Concerts LOGAN - Utah State University's Department of Music hosts the annual Tri-State Band Symposium Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center on USU's Logan campus. The Tri-State Symposium is an honor band experience for the regional wind and percussion students selected by director nomination. The event includes rehearsals and performances withconductors from across the country, including John Cody Birdwell, director of bands at theUniversity of Kentucky and former director of bands at USU, and Shelley Jagow, associate director of bands at Wright State University. The symposium features two bands with more than 140 high school players. The students will rehearse Friday and Saturday for a finale concert of the honor bands at 3 p.m. Dec. 7. Admission to the concert is free and the public is invited. There is also a sampler of the USU wind and percussion students in a collage concert formatFriday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. the concert will be a high energy, fast paced sequence that features music of a lighter fare.
