USU Extension Officials Saddened by Washington County Extension Office Fire

A fire that broke out the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 8, destroyed the Utah State University Extension Washington County Office in St. George, Utah, and Extension officials say they will no longer be able to use the building.
“We are truly saddened by the fire and are grateful no one was injured,” said Brian Higginbotham, associate vice president for USU Extension. “Insurance personnel are currently assessing the site and Washington County officials are looking for both long-term and short-term solutions.”
According to Rick Heflebower, USU Extension Washington County director, there are several options available for office space, and a decision on relocating the office should be determined by sometime next week.
“We are still operating, but on reduced level,” he said. “Our phone lines have been routed to a cell phone, so we are still able to answer phone calls. Starting Monday, our receptionist will be temporarily relocated just south of our former building at the Habitat Conservation Plan office. We will have a sign at our old building location to direct visitors there. There will be changes to our class schedules and locations, and we will get updated information out to those signed up as soon as we can.”
