All Aggies are invited to participate in 'Science Week' Jan. 27-Feb. 1.
A Science Week highlight is Wednesday's 'Watt’s Cool About Physics? Phenomenal Demonstration Show’ during Common Hour from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the TSC Ballroom. The first 200 student receive free lunch vouchers.
Members of the Utah State University community are invited to enjoy brain-energizing fun as USU’s College of Science Council hosts ‘Science Week’ Jan. 27-Feb. 1.
“We invite all Aggies to channel their ‘inner geek’ and join us in some great activities,” says Michelle Shook, president of USU’s student Science Council.
Here’s an overview of what’s on tap:
Monday, Jan. 27
Start your Monday and your week with the “Clubs and Croissants” science club fair from 8-11 a.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center atrium. Enjoy refreshments while visiting exhibits hosted by College of Science clubs.
From 6:30-8 p.m., Aggies are invited to “Milk Those Experiences: Networking Night with College of Science Alumni” in the Haight Alumni Center. Talk with USU science alumni, learn about their career paths and receive tips on life-after-graduation.
Tuesday, Jan. 28
From 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., cheer on your favorite team in the “Science Whiz Bowl: Profs vs. Students” in the Taggart Student Center International and Sunburst Lounges.
At 7 p.m., all Aggies are invited to a screening of the 2011 sci-fi thriller Contagion in the TSC Auditorium. Admission is free.
Wednesday, Jan. 29
Who says “There’s no free lunch??” During Common Hour from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., sparks fly, stuff explodes and smoke billows during the “Watt’s Cool About Physics? Phenomenal Demo Show” in the TSC Stevenson Ballroom. Led by James Coburn of USU’s Department of Physics, admission is free and the first 200 students receive free lunch vouchers.
Thursday, Jan. 30
Are you ready to apply for scholarships, internships and jobs? Drop in for “Professional Pictures and Resume Editing” from 9-11 a.m. at USU Career Services in the basement of the University Inn.
Friday, Jan. 31
From 8 a.m.-noon, watch for “Cookie for a Compliment” booths in science classroom buildings throughout campus, where you can write a “thank-you” note to a favorite science professor and receive a cookie for your thoughtfulness.
“There’s antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium…” Brush up on the periodic table of elements and test your knowledge at “Elemental Bingo” from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the Engineering building, Room 103.
Saturday, Feb. 1
“The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.” From 8-11 p.m., dance the night away to your favorite tunes at the annual “Smarty Pants Dance” in the HPER gymnasium, Room 201. Students are admitted free with a current I.D. The first 150 attendees receive free sunglasses.
USU’s College of Science includes the academic departments of chemistry and biochemistry, biology, mathematics and statistics, geology and physics.
