Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014
Katie Lee Koven has been named director of the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (NEHMA) at Utah State University’s Caine College of the Arts (CCA).
“Katie Lee Koven will bring a renewed energy and strategic vision to the museum that will serve the college well in the years to come,” said Craig Jessop, CCA dean.
Lee Koven holds degrees from the College of Charleston and Richmond: The American International University in London and has worked both in professional gallery and academic settings for more than 10 years. She also previously worked as director of the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery at Weber State University and has an abundance of experience in the worlds of fine art, craft and commercial galleries.
“I look forward to elevating the museum’s extraordinary collection of modern and contemporary art to become a national leader amongst academic art museums while providing meaningful learning experiences to students and faculty across Utah State University’s regional campuses,” said Lee Koven. “With our alumni and community as other key constituents, I will seek new and thoughtful ways to serve them with the goal of becoming a preeminent cultural hub in the western region.”
NEHMA was founded in 1982, made possible by a gift from the Nora Eccles Treadwell Foundation. The museum’s collections have eclipsed more than 5,000 objects through generous support from the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation, Janet Quinney Lawson, Frederick Q. Lawson and the Kathryn C. Wanlass Foundation.
As a component of the CCA, NEHMA provides educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing professional careers in the museum field. Students have the opportunity to participate in collections management, exhibition development, installation design and education programming.
The museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
