Boogie Over to Jazz Night at Elite Hall

Elite Hall in Hyrum, Utah, is the location for this year's 'Jazz Night’ with USU’s jazz ensembles. Dancing and dining are available.

Hyrum’s Elite Hall will be transformed into a 1930s jazz club for the 12th annual Jazz Night, presented by the Department of Music in the Caine College of the Arts (CCA) at Utah State University, Feb. 11-13 at 7 p.m.

“This year, guests will have the option of a dinner and dancing ticket for $25 or a dancing only ticket for $10,” Jon Gudmundson, director of jazz studies in the CCA, said. “Dinner will be catered by Firehouse Pizzeria.”

While you eat and dance the night away, enjoy live big band music performed by the Downbeat Award-winning USU Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble.

“Big band music will draw you to the dance floor to experience the Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston and more,” Gudmundson said. “There is only one dance hall left in the state of Utah that has a spring-loaded floor and it’s located right here in Cache Valley, It is a great experience to dance on a sprung floor — your dance partner will thank you and your knees will thank you!”

Feb. 11 is a student night with a dancing-only ticket (punch, ice water and cookies — no catering), while Feb. 12 and 13 offer the options of a dancing-only ticket or a dancing plus dinner catered by Firehouse Pizzeria ticket. All are welcome to attend any (or all) of the three nights.      The USU Big Band Swing Club will provide free dance instruction every night at 6 p.m.

Tickets for Jazz Night at Elite Hall are $10 for dancing only and $25 for dinner and dancing are available at the CCA Box Office in room L101 of the Chase Fine Arts Center, online via the college’s website or by calling 435-797-8022.
