USU President Stan L. and First Lady Joyce Albrecht are the Homecoming Grand Marshals.

Five notable Aggies will be honored for their contributions to Utah State University during the 2016 USU Homecoming Parade, Saturday, September 24.

The 2016 Homecoming honorees are a prominent feature of the homecoming parade and are chosen for their record of service and support to the university. The honorees include USU President Stan and First Lady Joyce Albrecht as Grand Marshals, Lieutenant General James C. King as Alumnus of the Year and Justin and Jocelyn Hamilton as Young Alumni of the Year.

2016 Grand Marshals

Stan L. Albrecht has served as president of Utah State University since 2005, where during his tenure he has acquired a broad range of administrative, research, teaching and outreach experiences. This includes administrative assignments as executive vice president and provost, where he served for four years; department chair; academic dean (twice), associate director of a major research institute; and academic vice president. He served as dean of the former College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences prior to his appointment as provost.

Stan has authored or co-authored five books and published more than 100 articles in refereed journals and book chapters. His research has been supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and a number of other programs and agencies. He has received outstanding research awards at both the University of Florida and Brigham Young University and several teaching awards.

Stan currently serves on the Economic Development Corporation of Utah Board of Trustees, as commissioner and vice chair of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, on the Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s Utah Advisory Committee and as a member of the Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah Community Board, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and Board of Governors and is part of the Utah Campus Compact.

Joyce Albrecht serves the dual role as first lady of USU and development director for the Caine College of the Arts. She brings nearly 35 years of administrative experience in higher education from two different states to her positions.

Joyce’s tenure at Brigham Young University from 1972-1995 was recognized with the Ben E. Lewis Management Award. During this time she provided 15 years of administrative oversight for the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.

Joyce’s move to Gainesville, Florida, in 1995 gave her the opportunity to work for the University of Florida Foundation, which ultimately exceeded its $1 billion dollar campaign goal. Community service has been an important priority for Joyce. She volunteered countless hours at the University of Florida Shands Cancer Center and was recognized with the outstanding volunteer award from Hope Lodge, a home-away-from home for cancer survivors.

Since her husband became president at USU in 2005, Joyce has made students her top priority, hosting them at the President’s House and raising scholarship funds. The teas she has hosted throughout the state have raised much-needed scholarship dollars for the university’s formerly-named Women’s Center.

When the university embarked on its first comprehensive capital campaign, Joyce continued to contribute to development through her stewardship of donors and assumed the position of development director for the newly-named Caine College of the Arts. As a result of her leadership, significant funding has been raised for student scholarships, faculty and program support and facility support in the arts.

Joyce has served on the boards of the Cache Valley Center for the Arts, the Sunshine Terrace Foundation and Intermountain Health Care of Logan. She enjoys reading, spending quiet time with her husband at their cabin in Fremont, Utah, and picnics in the park with her 12 grandchildren.

James C. King
2016 Alumnus of the Year

James C. King graduated from USU in 1968 and entered the U.S. Army as a distinguished military graduate through the USU Reserve Officer Training Program. He attended graduate school at the University of Missouri where he completed his master’s in public administration. Jim and his wife, Pamela (USU 1968), constantly proclaim to all that they are proud Aggies.

Jim’s military assignments included tours in the United States, Japan, Europe, Middle East, Horn of Africa and Vietnam. His last assignment was as the Commanding General at the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (renamed the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency). He has been inducted into the U.S. Army Hall of Fame – Intelligence and awarded the Presidential National Security Medal for his distinguished service to the United States of America.

Jim served for ten years as a trustee for the USU Research Foundation and is currently a member of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Leadership Board. Jim is always looking for ways to give back to USU to which he gives credit for his successes in the military and business. He believes that through USU programs, scholarships and mentoring USU graduates will find a path to “go forth and conquer!” Jim (the late Jeneane Campbell King) and Pam have seven children and eighteen grandchildren.

Justin and Jocelyn Hamilton

2016 Young Alumni of the Year

Justin and Jocelyn Hamilton both grew up in southeastern Idaho and attended Utah State University. Justin graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s in economics and political science. Jocelyn began her undergraduate studies at USU and completed her bachelor’s in dental hygiene at Dixie State University in 2006.

While at Utah State, Justin was involved in various clubs and organizations, including USU Ambassadors, Sigma Chi Fraternity, Student Alumni Association and Associated Students of Utah State University. He was honored as the 2003 Bill E. Robbins Memorial Award winner for his involvement and dedication to USU. As a student in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, Justin started his first restaurant, Café Sabor, which continues to operate in Logan’s historic Center Street Depot. Together, Justin and Jocelyn have made Café Sabor a staple in Cache Valley by building upon USU networks. Currently there are six locations in Utah and Idaho, with the newest restaurant opening in St. George in winter 2017.

In addition to Café Sabor, Justin and Jocelyn own and operate Off-Premise Catering and Red Poppy Rentals. Their catering teams take care of off-sight weddings, corporate and university events in addition to the food service operations at the Logan Country Club, Birch Creek Golf Course and Beaver Mountain Ski Resort.

Justin and Jocelyn love supporting USU and being involved in the Cache Valley community.  They enjoy traveling to different parts of the world, trying unique food and making new friends. They are both proud to be alumni of Utah State University.
