Save the Date for USU's Last Lecture Sept. 27
Thursday, Sep. 07, 2017
The Utah State University Honors Program is hosting the Last Lecture by USU English Professor Brian McCuskey Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m., in the Manon Caine Russell Kathryn Caine Wanlass Performance Hall on the Logan campus. All are invited.
“Initiated in 1976, the Last Lecture has become an important Honors Program student tradition at Utah State University,” said Kristine Miller, director of the University Honors Program. “Honors students have the opportunity to nominate an outstanding professor who has made a noteworthy contribution to the education and mentorship of undergraduates, both inside and outside of the classroom.”
A committee of honors students selects the winner each year, giving one exceptional professor the opportunity to speak to students as if it were his or her final lecture at USU. McCuskey will present “Alice vs. Sherlock,” staging an intellectual smackdown between Alice in Wonderland and Sherlock Holmes. The dreamer and the detective: who knows best how to look at and think about the world? The lecture tells the story of Alice and Sherlock going viral, following them from Victorian England to the present day, from the original stories to screen adaptations to internet memes.
