Large Portion of USU's Champ Drive to Close for Summer
Monday, Apr. 16, 2018
Utah State University is closing a portion of Champ Drive Monday, May 7, for several construction projects throughout the summer. The road closure begins at the Family Life building and then proceeds west to Old Main.
Construction along Champ Drive will require complete closure and will cause significant disruption to traffic and pedestrians needing to access buildings along its path. Alternate means for necessary parking and vehicle access will be provided to those in affected areas. at USU Facilities Customer Service and at USU Parking Services.
The main project involved installing a new sewer line within the roadway. The existing sewer line is currently located within a section of the utility tunnel serving Family Life and Ray B. West and is too small to serve new buildings constructed on campus over the past few years.
Two other projects will also happen concurrently including a revision and repair of the parking lot immediately south of Old Main and a reroof of the Ray B. West building. The parking lot is being revised to allow for better queuing of vehicles that enter to drop off children attending the Child Development Lab. It will also receive a new asphalt topping to extend its service life. Ray B. West will have extensive construction to replace old shingles and to perform a seismic upgrade to the roof structure.
Construction along Champ Drive and the parking lot is expected to be completed by August 24, barring any unexpected complications.
Those with questions about parking and travel through this area of campus may Facilities Customer Service or USU Parking Services. For further information regarding the project, contact USU Facilities Planning, Design and Construction at 435-797-3737.
