USU's Caine Lyric Theatre, home to the Lyric Repertory Company

The Lyric Repertory Company (Lyric Rep) at the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University brings an eclectic mix of plays for the 51st summer season.

“The Lyric Rep brings an amazing company of actors from all over the country to Logan’s summer theater scene,” said Richie Call, co-artistic director of the Lyric Rep. “The Caine Lyric Theatre is an integral part of the Cache Valley Community.”

Opening this year’s season is Sense & Sensibility, adapted for the stage by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan. Through love and loss, the Dashwood sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find happiness. Jane Austen’s classic love story comes to life in what many are calling the greatest adaptation of the show ever. See for yourself June 15, 16, 30, July 14, 20, 26, 28 and August 1.

Tony Award-winning Peter and the Starcatcher opens June 22 and brings to life the swashbuckling story of a young, lost boy named Peter. Explore the depths of greed and despair and the bonds of friendship, duty and love as Peter and his mates meet the fearsome pirate, Black Stache, on a ship bound for adventure. The play is written by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker and based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson and plays June 22, 23, July 7, 11, 21, 27, August 2 and 4.

Grey Gardens, the breathtaking and alluring portrait of the eccentric mother and daughter duo, Big and Little Edie Bouvier Beale, opens June 28. Based on the book by Doug Wright with music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie, the musical explores how one of the wealthiest families in New York ends up living in squalor and isolation. Big and Little Edie are the aunt and first cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. This musical plays June 28-30, July 12, 14, 18, 28 and August 3.

The final show of the season is William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.  See Macbeth and his wife claw their way to the top of Scotland’s royalty through ambition and deceit when the Lyric Rep brings you Shakespeare’s most popular take on political treachery July 5-7, 13, 19, 21, 25 and August 4.

“Last year, we celebrated our 50th anniversary by inviting audience members to vote for their four favorite productions from the previous 49 seasons,” Call said. “Those four revivals were produced last summer. This year, we’re producing four plays that have never been produced on the Caine Lyric Theatre stage.”

The Lyric Rep will also be offering two dates for Dinner & Discussion. Enjoy a meal with the actors, directors and designers by the river at the Riverwoods Conference Center prior to curtain. Dinner & Discussion features special presentations, discussions and interactions with Lyric Rep patrons’ favorite artistic team. Dinners are $30 per person and start at 4:30 p.m. Dinners are Saturday, June 23 and Saturday, July 7.

The Lyric Rep is comprised of theater professionals and advanced university theater students.
