Aggie Golfers Finish in Third Place at Southern Utah Invitational

Utah State's men's golf team shot a final round 4-under 284 and finished in third-place with a 1-over 577 (293-284) at the Southern Utah-hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational held here at the par-72, 6,900-yard Sunbrook Golf Club. In all, USU's second round 284 was the best round of the day and tied for the second-best round of the tournament.
 
Northern Colorado finished first in the 11-team field at 4-under-par 572 (282-290), while Southern Utah's Jake Vincent (70-68) and Middle Tennessee's Cooper Sears (69-69) shared medalist honors at 6-under-par 138.
 
For Utah State, sophomore Andy Hess recorded his best-ever tournament finish as he tied for fifth place at 2-under-par 142 (75-67). For Hess, it was his second-career under-par finish and his first-career top-10 placing. Furthermore, his final round 67 is tied for his best-ever round, and marks just his third-career round in the 60s and ninth-career round under par.
 
Also competing for Utah State was junior Chase Lansford, who tied for eighth place at 1-under 143 (73-70), marking his sixth-career under par finish and third-career top-10 placing. With his final round 70, Lansford has now recorded a team-best 16 rounds under par in his career.
 
Other Aggies who played in the tournament include freshman Cameron Tucker, who tied for 15th place at 1-over 145 (72-73), sophomore Colten Cordingley, who tied for 21st place at 3-over 147 (73-74) and junior Hayden Eckert, who tied for 25th place at 6-over 150 (75-75).
 
Utah State will return to action on Sunday, March 10, when it travels to Bandon, Ore., to compete in the Gonzaga-hosted Bandon Dunes Championship.
