The winter crew will go 11/5/09-1/30/2010. Service will be with Utah Department of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands in Washington County on a habitat restoration project. Winter weather conditions and intense physical labor part of project. Built-in half week breaks for Thanksgiving and New Year's, one week break for Christmas.
Challenge yourself as a leader of a 4–8 person crew while conducting conservation service work in some of the most beautiful places in the West. As a crew leader, you will be leading crews on restoration, trail, and fence projects within Utah's national parks and forests. Prior to leading crews, crew leaders undergo a two week training period followed by a month in the field working alongside fellow crew leaders. Crew leaders must be at least 21 and have solid leadership skills, outdoor experience, a positive attitude, maturity, and flexibility.
AmeriCorps crew members spend 3–6 months living and working outside as part of a 4–8 member crew. They complete demanding and rewarding trail, restoration, and fence projects in partnership with the National Park Service, Forest Service, and BLM. Crew members must be at least 18 and have a strong desire to work hard, be a part of a team, travel to beautiful places, and live out of a tent.
The UCC will be hiring eight AmeriCorps members to serve on an inclusive crew made up of corps members with and without physical disabilities. Accommodations and adaptive equipment will be made available to crew members with disabilities to enable full participation. This crew will focus on making developed areas within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest accessible to people with disabilities and developing an accessible community garden. The inclusive crew will receive the same crew member benefits.

The UCC is placing individual AmeriCorps members to serve with a variety of non-profit organizations that focus on environmental conservation. These one year (1700-hour) positions give members the opportunity to gain professional and teaching experience that frequently leads to permanent employment with the non-profits they serve. The Utah Conservation Corps (UCC) seeks a Coordinator of Programs (Crew Supervisor) responsible for supervision of UCC conservation field crews. The Coordinator of Programs provides professional leadership and technical expertise to crews and insures that all members are adequately trained and prepared to perform high quality work in a safe environment. He/She is to work under the direction of the Assistant Director of the Utah Conservation Corps.
Position is contingent upon annual renewal of funding.
