Bilingual Youth Corps
Bilingual Crew Members complete demanding and rewarding trail, restoration, and fence projects in partnership with the National Park Service, Forest Service, and BLM. The program officially operates from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Each program day involves seven hours of service-learning and one hour of formal education, plus a break for lunch. Recreational activities include canoeing, hiking, and visits to museums or historic sites.
Each summer has two sessions (12 youth per session). The first week of each session will be training at the Stokes Nature Center in Logan Canyon. The training will include educational programs on migratory bird habitat conservation, outdoor skills and leadership development. Upon completion of training, youth will work in crews of six, each facilitated by a Bilingual Youth Crew Leader. Youth will spend 2 weeks working at Golden Spike National Historic Site and 2 weeks working at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Bridgerland Audubon Society's Amalga Barrens Sanctuary. A graduation BBQ will be held on the last day.
Prior to leading crews, Crew Leaders undergo a three week training period including time in the field working alongside fellow Crew Leaders and Field Bosses.
