Student Retention Data Tracking and Assessment

Charge

Appropriate and effective use of student data is critical in efforts to retain students and assist in their success.  Robust data utilization and analysis can and should impact the deployment of resources in student retention efforts.  Individual efforts to collect data can certainly inform this resource deployment, but collective efforts to combine the collection of data, ranging from demographic and participation tracking data to quantitative and qualitative assessments, among others, can lead to more nuanced analysis and better understanding of issues surrounding student persistence and success.  In an effort to lead to greater collaboration in these areas, the Student Retention Data Tracking and Assessment Subcommittee is charged with:

  • developing strategies for sharing, co-utilizing, and analyzing student tracking data across the university, particularly as it impacts student retention/attrition

  • utilizing and building on current student assessments to better ascertain student perceptions, constraints, values and needs

  • establishing student retention-focused goals and initiatives related to careful analysis of both tracking and assessment data

The subcommittee consists of a member fromAdmissions, Analysis, Accreditation, and Assessment (AAA), Leave of Absence program, Office of University Advising, Retention and Student Success Office, and the Registrar’s Office.

Goals

  • Create a series of reports that can be used to help with "Retention Data Tracking and Assessment" that can be provided to the other subcommittees. The concept is that we want to provide sample reports that all of the subcommittees can review so they get an idea of what is available now and what can be done. This should help everyone think of what information/reports will be the most useful. Where we can actually have the reports working we can provide samples. In other cases we will develop a mockup of reports as an example of what we would like to have.
