Charge
"Voluminous research on college student development shows that the time and energy students devote to educationally purposeful activities is the single best predicator of their learning and personal development." (Kuh , et.al 2005) Activities, experiences, and opportunities that are provided outside the classroom engage the student in learning as they broaden and enrich their academic endeavors. Research indicates that students who connect to the university through experiences outside the classroom are more likely to persist to graduation and develop a stronger affinity to the institution. To support student engagement among all students and in each unique year of their experience at Utah State University, the committee is charged with:
- building on current best programs and services at Utah State University, develop and foster the implementation of initiatives that involve students outside the classroom in meaningful experiences.
- drawing upon existing and new data resources to develop assessment strategies for student engagement initiatives as to their impact on retention and student success.
- further developing initiatives to ensure that all students are provided opportunities that will impact their persistence and academic success.
The subcommittee consists of a representative from: ASUSU, Connections, Parent and Family Programs, Passport Program, Public Relations and Marketing, Residence Life, Service Learning, SOAR, and University Advising
