Judge Samuel Alba: Humanities and Social Sciences' Distinguished Speaker

Judge Samuel Alba is the featured guest at Utah State University in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences' Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series. He speaks Friday, Nov. 19, 12:30 p.m., Haight Alumni Center.
Law and the legal profession continue in the spotlight for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series at Utah State University. October’s presentation featured attorney Marcus R. Mumford (’96) and November’s guest is Judge Samuel Alba (’69) who speaks Friday, Nov. 19, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Haight Alumni Center on USU’s campus. The lecture is free and all are invited, especially students who study in the college.
 
Speakers featured in the Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series are successful professionals who return to campus to present talks on a wide range of topics. Many emphasize the importance of their educational experiences.
 
“We want to show our students the range of career options available to those who study in our college,” said John Allen, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. “A college degree is valuable, and we believe a degree from our college opens many doors.”
 
Judge Alba, November’s speaker, has been a United States Magistrate Judge since August 1992. Prior to that he was a shareholder at Prince, Yeates and Geldzahler from 1987 to 1992.
 
Alba graduated from USU in 1969 earning a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is a 1972 graduate of the Arizona State University Law School in Tempe, Ariz.
 
The tile of Judge Alba’s USU lecture is “The Changing Face of the Law in Latin America.”
 
Magistrate Judge Alba currently serves on the Judicial Conference Committee on Defender Services. He served as Chief Magistrate Judge in the District of Utah from 2003 through 2008. He currently serves as co-chair of the building committee.
