Two Utah State Students Win Golden Key's 2010 FORD Business Scholarship

Thursday, Mar. 03, 2011

Ford Business Scholarship recipients Trevor Nelson and Spencer Bailey
Trevor Nelson (left) and Spencer Bailey (right) have received the Golden Key FORD Business Scholarship. Each receive a $10,000 award.

Golden Key International Honour Society recently selected Utah natives Trevor Nelson and Spencer Bailey as winners of the FORD Business Scholarship. Golden Key annually awards more than $1,000,000 in scholarships and awards.

All Golden Key student members may apply for the FORD Business Scholarship, but only four outstanding students are selected to receive this honor for the academic year. Nelson and Bailey, both students at Utah State University, were selected from an outstanding pool of eligible students and each received a $10,000 award.

Nelson is currently working on his master’s degree in human resources and M.B.A. at Utah State University. He also serves on Golden Key’s International Leadership Council and is also the graduate student senate president at his university. Baily is a dual major of international business and finance with a minor in Chinese and is a Huntsman Scholar at USU.

“I actually found out that I had received this award on the night of my wedding day, so it made the whole day even more fantastic!” said Nelson about winning this scholarship. “Taking on a dual degree program for graduate school has been quite the task, but receiving this award definitely helps lift some of the financial burden.”

“I am honored to have been chosen as a recipient of the FORD Business Scholarship,” said Bailey. “This award puts me one step closer to fulfilling my dream of being a first generation college graduate. Golden Key has enabled me to dream big, and act bigger.”

Golden Key recognizes and encourages scholastic achievement and excellence among college and university students from all academic disciplines. The society provides campus and community service opportunities that enable personal growth and leadership development, as well as collaborating with university faculty and administrators to develop and maintain high standards of education.

“It is an honor to present Trevor and Spencer with the FORD Business Scholarship,” said John W. Mitchell, Golden Key’s chief executive officer. “Our members are inspired and motivated not only to achieve exceptional academic accomplishments, but also to make a positive impact on our world through the Society’s commitment to service.”

Established in 1977, Golden Key is the world’s premier collegiate honor society, with more than two million student and alumni members. The Society has more than 390 campus-based chapters in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, The Bahamas and the United States.
