Utah State University’s Ropes Course invites everyone to an open house Wednesday, Aug. 8. The free event runs from noon to 2 p.m.

Those attending will see the course in action, including new elements that have been added this year and enjoy a light lunch, according to Lisa Anderson, assistant director of the University Inn and Conference Center. For those who cannot attend the open house, guided tours are available anytime upon request, she said.

Anderson said a ropes course experience is an effective, hands-on educational experience designed to increase teamwork, communication and employee morale.

“The unique challenge activities and the facilitated debriefing that follows can be custom-designed to meet a department’s specific goals and achieve desired outcomes,” Anderson said.

The USU Ropes Course is an outdoor challenge course with more than 50 activities. Low elements — carried out on the ground — are learning activities.

“The high ropes elements are activities that teach individual accomplishment, perseverance and overcoming fears, the value of team support and self-confidence,” Anderson said.

The USU Ropes Course is open to any company, department, association or organization. The course also offers specialized activities, including a couples retreat and date nights.

“Couples retreats are specifically designed for married couples,” Anderson said. “Whether couples have been together for a few months or many years, they will improve communication skills, trust in each other and build stronger partnerships.”

The couples program involves four hours at the course on both the low and high elements, dinner for two, a keynote speaker and Aggie Ice Cream. Date nights are designed for dating couples and are planned to help them get to know each other better, as well as teach effective communication skills along the way, Anderson said.

The USU Ropes Course is open through the end of October. During the winter months the team of experienced facilitators is available to conduct trainings indoors at any location for any type of group.

The USU Ropes Course is managed by the University Inn & Conference Center at Utah State University. Information is available at its website or call (435) 797-0423 or 800-538-2663.
