The Utah State University Botanical Center hosts a variety of upcoming free events at the farmers market, held every Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., until Oct. 12 at 920 South 50 West in Kaysville.
“All Pollinators,” held Thursday, Aug. 16, features Corey Stanley-Star, USU Extension bee specialist, who will spotlight pollinators. Additional events include free children’s crafts, a beehive demo, games, honey tasting and a raffle.
A garden open house is Aug. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. Maps of the USU Botanical Center are available at the farmers market. Garden stewards will take visitors on a teaching tour in the new Stokes Ornamental Grass Garden, Demonstration Orchard, Varga Arboretum, Food Pantry Vegetable Garden and Rasmussen Teaching Garden.
Salsa takes center stage at the “Salsa Showdown” Sept. 6, where guests can taste and vote for their favorites, and the winner will receive a prize. Contestants must pre-register and can get rules and further information by calling 801-544-3089 or via email at lori.matsukawa@usu.edu.
In addition, fresh local food can be found each Thursday evening at the farmers market. For more information, visit the center’s website or email robyn.knight@usu.edu.
