Thursday, Sep. 27, 2012

Hyrum Smith, guest speaker at USU
Hyrum Smith, co-founder and former CEO of Franklin Covey, is among the keynote speakers at the 38th Annual Operational Excellence Conference Oct. 3- 4, sponsored by Partners In Business, a part of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business.

Hyrum Smith, the co-founder and former CEO of Franklin Covey, will be one of the keynote speakers at the 38th Annual Operational Excellence Conference slated for Oct. 3 and 4 at Utah State University.

The conference is sponsored by Partners In Business, an organization that is part of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business.

Smith is now the chairman and CEO of Legacy Quest, Inc., and has been invited to work with such companies as Coca-Cola, Disney, Nike, MIT Boston and Apple Computers, according to Jamie Andrus, the assistant director of Partners In Business.

“Hyrum Smith has been empowering people to effectively govern their personal and professional lives for two decades,” Andrus said. “Hyrum Smith combines wit and enthusiasm to captivate audiences and initiate lasting personal change.”

The Operational Excellence Conference on Oct. 3 and 4 will feature speakers who will highlight new operational excellence ideas and methodologies, Andrus said. In addition to attending breakout sessions, conference attendees will have the opportunity to network during luncheons both days and during a dinner on Oct. 3.

Other keynote speakers for the conference include Kevin J. Duggan, founder of the Institute for Operational Excellence; Dustin Ott, global manager, operational excellence of Boart Longyear; Stan Prueitt, director of process improvement in the education department of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints; and Mike Orzen, president of Mike Orzen & Associates.

For those who are interested, the conference will also feature a workshop Oct. 1 and 2 taught by Jacob Raymer, director of education at the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence. It will include an overview of the Shingo Prize model, a combination of learning modules and hands-on activities as well as team discussions and assessment. Participants will have the opportunity to visit Thermo Fisher Scientific, work through the assessment process, observe and conduct interviews at the workplace and create a feedback report, said Andrus.

“We expect nothing but the best from these speakers who are dynamic leaders in their respective fields,” she said. “They offer the knowledge that will allow the development of innovative ways to create value for organizations and their customers.”

Partners In Business offers a series of professional development conferences each year. More information about the conference and registration fees is available at the website.
