WHAT TO WATCH FOR

  • Utah State's 8-2 start to the season is its best since 1974 when that Aggie team also won eight of its first 10 games. Furthermore, USU is 4-0 in conference play for the first time since 2000 when that team won its first four Big West Conference games.
  • Utah State's eight wins are its most since the 1974 team posted an 8-3 record. Overall, it is just the 10th time in school history that USU has won at least eight games. Furthermore, USU has now won at least seven games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1978 and 1979 campaigns, and for just the eighth time in school history.
  • Utah State's 13-3 record in its last 16 games under head coach Gary Andersen is its best stretch since going 13-3 during the 1971-73 seasons. USU's three losses during its last 16 games have been by a combined six points against Ohio (24-23) in the 2011 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, and at No. 22 Wisconsin (16-14) and at BYU (6-3) this year.
  • Utah State's nine-straight WAC wins is the most league wins in a row in school history bettering the 1979 and 1980 teams that combined for seven-straight Big West Conference wins. The last WAC opponent to beat Utah State was Louisiana Tech, 24-17, on Oct. 22, 2011 in Logan. All-time, USU is 22-37 (.373) in WAC play.
  • Utah State has won six of its last eight road games dating back to 2011, including a 3-2 record this year. USU has also won five-straight WAC road games to rank as the longest winning streak on the road since the 1995-1997 teams combined to win six-straight Big West Conference road games. Overall, USU is 8-16 (.333) in road games under Andersen.
  • Utah State has out-scored its opponents 103-6 in the first quarter this year allowing only field goals by San Jose State and UTSA. USU also has a 206-45 scoring advantage in the first-half this season. In all, USU has held eight opponents scoreless in the first quarter and three opponents scoreless in the first half this season. Overall, USU had led at the half in all but one game this year (trailed BYU, 6-3), and has scored first in every game except at San Jose State (FG).
  • Utah State and Penn State are the only two teams in the nation who have not allowed a first quarter touchdown this season.

UTAH STATE RECEIVING VOTES IN BOTH AP AND COACHES' POLLS
Utah State received votes in both national polls for the second week in a row as it garnered 20 votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll to rank 31st nationally and four votes in the Associated Press Poll to rank tied for 36th in the nation with Tulsa and San Jose State. Last week, USU garnered 13 votes in the coaches poll to rank 35th nationally and four votes in the AP poll to rank 40th. USU also received four votes in the coaches' poll two weeks ago to rank tied for 39th in the nation. Overall, it is the fourth time this year that USU has received top 25 votes, as it got one vote in the AP poll following its 27-20 overtime win at home against Utah on Sept. 7 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Prior to this season, the last time Utah State received votes in any poll was at the end of the 1993 campaign when it garnered one vote in the final AP poll after defeating Ball State, 42-33, in the Las Vegas Bowl II to finish the year with a 7-5 record. The last time a USU team was nationally ranked was in 1978 when that Aggie team won its first five games of the year to rank 18th in the country in the United Press International Poll (UPI).

UTAH STATE BOWL-ELIGIBLE FOR SECOND-STRAIGHT SEASON
With its 8-2 record thus far in 2012, Utah State is bowl-eligible for the second time in as many seasons. In all, USU has played in six bowl games in school history (1946 Raisin Bowl, 1960 Sun Bowl, 1961 Gotham Bowl, 1993 Las Vegas Bowl, 1997 Humanitarian Bowl, 2011 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl) and has gone to back-to-back bowl games just once playing in the 1960 Sun Bowl and the 1961 Gotham Bowl.
