USU Flag to Fly at Half-Staff through Dec. 18 for Connecticut Tragedy

Friday, Dec. 14, 2012

In conjunction with the attached proclamation issued by United States President Barack Obama, Utah Governor Gary Herbert has authorized the Flag of the United States of America to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities, effective immediately and to remain so until sunset on Dec. 18. The flag shall be flown at half-staff out of respect for those whose lives were taken in Newtown, Conn.

Regarding this tragedy, Governor Herbert issued the following statement:

“I am shocked and deeply saddened at the tragic and senseless loss of so many of our nation’s innocent children today. To those mourning in Connecticut, the people of Utah mourn with you. Jeanette and I extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the families and community who grieve this senseless tragedy. May they find healing and peace; may we all hold those we love a little tighter today.”
