In the latest milestone for the college, Utah State University’s former College of Agriculture updated its name to the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. The new college name communicates the breadth of college to its constituents, including current and future students, while recognizing the college’s significant legacy of excellence in agriculture.

The expansion of the college’s name came about after several programs were added to the college, including family and consumer science education, landscape architecture, aviation technology and several others.

“We’ve added some really great programs, and we need to recognize the legacy of agriculture while also recognizing the breadth of the new programs,” said Noelle Cockett, dean of the college.

Beginning almost 18 months ago, the process to broaden the college’s name involved the college’s administration, faculty, students and advisory board. Stakeholders were consulted and asked to vote on potential names. The new name will be officially announced during “United by the Land,” a musical and narrative event featuring the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra April 9.

More celebrations are scheduled to take place on April 10, with student events happening in five of the college’s buildings during common hour.
