USU's Old Main Hill Path & Upper Steps Near Amphitheatre Under Construction

Monday, Sep. 09, 2013

Construction that began on Utah State University’s Old Main Hill in early September is affecting travel to and from campus. Patrons coming to campus via the southwest corner on 400 North or from the southwest parking lot located on 400 North are encouraged to stay below Old Main Hill on 700 East and use the main staircase going up the hill toward Old Main. Patrons are also asked to use caution and be advised of construction signage posted along the hill.

“So many people use Old Main Hill to get to and from campus,” said Quin Whitaker of USU’s Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction. “We want everyone to please pay attention to caution signs and respect the fences blocking construction. We do not want any unwarranted accidents.

Spindler Construction is removing and replacing the asphalt path on Old Main Hill that begins at the flagpole and runs southwest and down the hill to 400 North. Also, the upper section of stairs south of Old Main, next to the Amphitheatre, are being removed and replaced. The project became necessary as the path was becoming worn down and stairs began crumbling.

USU’s Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction understands the construction is an inconvenience for many. The project was originally scheduled to begin in July of 2013 but was pushed back due to funding issues. Work on the project is expected to run through the last week of November, weather permitting.
