Utah State's [University] Chuckie Keeton earned honorable mention National Quarterback of the Week honors from College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) following Utah State's 52-20 conference win at Air Force last weekend, it was announced Monday [Sept. 9, 2013].

During the 2012 season, Keeton earned honorable mention National Quarterback of the Week honors from CFPA five times.

Keeton, a 6-2, 200-pound junior from Houston, Texas, (Cypress Creek HS) tied his own school record with five touchdown passes (30, 23, 20, 36, 1) in handing Air Force its worst home loss since 2005. Against the Falcons, he completed a career-high 32 passes and tied his career-high with 40 pass attempts, while throwing for 360 yards, which is the second-most in his career. Keeton also rushed for a game-high 77 yards on just eight carries, including a 30-yard run, to become the 25th player in school history and just second quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a career.

On the season, Keeton ranks first in the Mountain West (MW) and third in the nation in total offense (418.0 ypg), second in the MW and tied for sixth in the nation in completions (31.5), first in the MW and 20th in the nation in passing efficiency (175.9), second in the MW and 10th in the nation in passing (337.0 ypg) and sixth in the MW and 60th in the nation in rushing (81.0 ypg).

Oklahoma State’s J.W. Walsh and Georgia’s Aaron Murray were named co-Quarterback Performers of the Week by CFPA, while Keeton joined Taysom Hill (BYU), Bryce Petty (Baylor), Zach Mettenberger (LSU), Travis Wilson (Utah), Marcus Mariota (Oregon), Jameis Winston (Florida State), Devin Gardner (Michigan), Tayor Kelly (Arizona State), Cole Stoudt (Clemson) and Corey Robinson (Troy) as honorable mention honorees.

Utah State is 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play after posting a 52-20 win at Air Force last weekend in its first-ever Mountain West game. This week, USU begins its home season by hosting Weber State (1-1) in its annual Homecoming game Saturday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. Overall, USU has won eight straight home games and 17 of its last 21 games.
