Utah State's [University] Tanner Higham shot a final round 4-under par 67 to claim his first-ever tournament title with a collegiate-best 8-under 205 (71-67-67) at the Boise State-hosted Dash Thomas Memorial held at the BanBury Golf Course Monday and Tuesday [Sept. 9-10].

Utah State finished the Dash Thomas Memorial in fifth-place out of 12 teams with a 15-over 867 (287-283-297) as Sacramento State won the tournament championship with a 1-under 851 (286-280-285).

Overall, Higham is the first Aggie golfer to win a tournament outright since the fall of 1996 when Todd Tanner won medalist honors after carding a 3-over 147 (77-70) at the Stevinson Ranch Invitational in Stanislaus, Calif. Furthermore, Higham's 8-under 205 is the best 54-hole score by an Aggie golfer since the fall of 2007 when Devin Daniels carded a 12-under par 204 (70-64-70) to finish tied for 15th at the Agua-Caliente Air Force Invitational in Palm Springs, Calif.

Higham has now recorded eight top 10 collegiate finishes during his career, including tying for first-place at the 2013 Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational with a 2-under 142 (70-72) before losing in a playoff.

At the Dash Thomas Memorial, Higham (Shelley, Idaho) began the tournament with an even-par 71 before firing a season-low 4-under par 67 during his second 18 holes. During his final round Tuesday, Higham again shot a 4-under 67 to defeat Cal State Fullerton’s Mark Anguiano by one stroke, finishing with a 7-under 206 (70-70-66).

Sophomore Seokwon Jeon (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished the Dash Thomas Memorial tied for 17th-place for Utah State with a 4-over 217 (69-72-76), while freshman Eli Rogers (Hamilton, Mont.) tied for 32nd-place with a 10-over 223 (74-70-79). Junior Grahm Schmaltz (Kalispell, Mont.) finished the tournament tied for 40th-place with a 12-over 225 (73-77-75), and freshman Braxton Miller (Boise, Idaho) tied for 54th-place with a 17-over 230 (77-74-79). Sophomore Brennan Coburn (Layton, Utah) also competed for USU as an individual and finished tied for 40th-place with a 12-over 225 (78-73-74).

Utah State will return to action Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7-8, when it competes in the Utah Invitational held in Park City, Utah.
