Utah State junior placekicker Nick Diaz was named the College Football Performance Awards National Specialist of the Week, along with being one of three Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week following Utah State's 40-12 Mountain West win at San José State it was announced Monday [Sept. 30].

Diaz was a perfect 4-of-4 on field goals, setting career-highs for both field goals attempted and made in a single game against the Spartans. Against San Jose State, Diaz made field goals from 24, 45, 24 and 21 yards, as his 45-yard field goal is a season-long. Overall, Diaz’s four made field goals are the most by an Aggie since the 1999 season when Brad Bohn made a school record five field goals against BYU. Furthermore, the 16 total points accounted for by Diaz against SJSU are the second-most in a single-game in Mountain West history.

Diaz shares the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) honor with Arkansas State’s Brian Davis, while Mike Meyer (Iowa), Roberto Aguayo (Florida State), Patrick Clarke (Buffalo), Austin Rehkow (Idaho), Zach Hocker (Arkansas), Cairo Santos (Tulane), Chris Boswell (Rice), Carey Spear (Vanderbilt) and Joe Mansour (Kentucky) all received honorable mention honors from CFPA.

Diaz shares the Lou Groza Award Star of the Week title with Iowa’s Mike Meyer and Idaho’s Austin Rehkow. The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla., Dec. 12. Fans can vote for Diaz to be one of the final three recipients at www.LouGrozaAward.com.

On the season, Diaz ranks fourth in the Mountain West and 31st in the nation in field goals (1.4 pg), fourth in the MW and 34th in the nation in field goal percentage (87.5), fifth in the MW and 53rd in the nation in scoring (8.8 ppg), and sixth in the MW in extra point percentage (95.8).
