The Utah State University Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning welcomes Jie Hu, designer of the Olympic Forest Park for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Monday, Nov. 11, at 9:30 a.m. in the USU Performance Hall.

Hu will speak on the dynamic changes in land planning and design in China. His talk will focus on the adoption and impacts of sustainable practices in China’s rapidly expanding urban fabric.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Several of his masterpieces will be featured, including the Beijing Olympic Forest Park, home of Beijing 2008 Olympics. The 2,800-acre park focuses on sustainable developments and won first place in the International Design Competition for the Beijing Olympic Green Master Plan as well as the Green Good Design Award in Green Urban Planning.

In addition to Hu’s involvement with the Beijing Olympics, Hu is also the vice president of Beijing Tsinghua Tongheng Planning & Design Institute, director of the Research Center for Landscape Architecture and council member of Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture.

Based on his professional contribution to the landscape architecture industry, he was awarded Beijing’s 2007 foreign expert “Great Wall Friendship Award” and named a Beijing Olympic Games Torchbearer in 2008. Other honors include being named Advanced Individual by Beijing Olympic Planning Project Exploring & Design and Mapping Industry, Hi-tech Olympics Sophisticated Individual and Chinese Science Man of the Year in 2008.
