Celebrate the Holiday Season at USU with 'Joyful & Triumphant'
Music Department's Holiday Concert is Dec. 3

LOGAN - Utah State University's Department of Music presents its annual holiday concert "Joyful and Triumphant" Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall in the Chase Fine Arts Center on the Logan campus.

The concert features Caine College of the Arts' students from the University Chorale, Chamber Singers, Women's Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Flute Choir and Caine Brass Quintet.

"'Joyful and Triumphant' is a delightful collage concert performed with no applause so the listener's journey from one piece to another is a mesmerizing holiday performance," said Cory Evans, director of the choral program at USU. "This year's concert will also feature some unexpected visual elements, including a snowstorm, an impressive digital background and the talented music students."

The USU Chamber Singers will perform the regional premiere of "In The Bleak Mid-Winter" by British composer Richard Allain, and a new setting of the ancient text "Gaudete" by American composer Michael Engelhardt featuring choir and modern industrial percussion elements.

"In honor of composer Benjamin Britten's centenary, the USU Women's Choir will perform his 'Ceremony of Carols,'" said Evans. "The combined choirs will perform Mack Wilberg's 'I Saw Three Ships' and Mike Davis' festive setting of 'Joyful & Triumphant.'"

Evans also said the USU Jazz Orchestra will perform Tom Kubis' arrangement of "O Holy Night" and the USU Flute Choir will play "Fantasy on Coventry Carol."

Tickets for the holiday concert are $15 general admission, $10 seniors and youth, $5 USU faculty and staff and free for USU students with valid ID. For more information and tickets, visit the Caine College of the Arts Box Office in room 139-B of the Chase Fine Arts Center on USU's campus, call 435-797-8022 or see the college's Production Services website (arts.usu.edu).November 25, 2013
