USU Extension Sponsors Successful Sitter Day Camp

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah State University Extension in Salt Lake County presents “Successful Sitter Day Camp,” held July 21-23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Salt Lake County Government Center, 2001 South State Street, South Building, Room S-1010.

The day camp is geared toward youth ages 10 to 14 and will provide education for those who watch siblings or who are interested in starting their own babysitting business. It also provides tips for becoming capable, caring, responsible babysitters.

“Babysitting can be a challenging responsibility, but with the right tools and knowledge it is fun,” said Natalie Noakes, USU Extension family and consumer sciences intern. “The Successful Sitter camp is a resource that will make babysitting safe, exciting and lively for both the sitter and kids, too.”

Noakes will teach the class along with Marilyn Albertson, USU Extension family and consumer sciences associate professor. Over the three-day course, a babysitting kit will be assembled by participants and will include such items as healthy snack recipes, first aid and safety skills information, art projects and music and story time samples.

Youth who register for the day camp will also be enrolled in 4-H though September. With the 4-H membership, youth can enter their babysitting kit in the Salt Lake County Fair held Aug. 6 to 9, 2014. Cost for the three-day camp is $30 per person and includes 4-H summer membership.
