USU Alumni Band August 10: Music from Across the Waves
Thursday, Aug. 07, 2014
Utah State University presents its Alumni Band performing Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. on the USU Quad on the Logan campus. The concert marks the conclusion of the band’s 2014 summer series.
“Our last concert will focus on the music of England,” said Nick Morrison, conductor and senior associate dean in the Caine College of the Arts.
Morrison also said the concert’s guest conductors include Craig Jessop, dean of the Caine College of the Arts, and Thomas Rohrer, director of bands in the CCA and its Department of Music. Assistant professor of horn and director of athletic bands Joseph Falvey is a guest soloist for the concert.
“It is rare for this ensemble to get to play under the baton of Dean Jessop, and the members are very much looking forward to it,” said Morrison. “Jessop has extensive experience conducting, having served as a commander and conductor of the United States Air Force band at Ramstein AFB, Germany, and of the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band at Offutt AFB in Nebraska.”
One of the pieces Jessop will conduct is Alma Mater Utah State, which is the same tune that is played at commencement.
Morrison said Celebrate America’s Stardust singers will perform during intermission. The singers are USU students who sing with the Celebrate America show in the fall.
“Audience members who enjoyed Tad Calcara’s performance at the last Alumni Band concert will like this very much as well,” said Morrison. “We are grateful to Brenda Anthony and Michael DuBois for their work in bringing these fine voices to our summer audience.”
The concluding Alumni Band concert is free and open to the public. This concert will be held on the USU Quad. In case of inclement weather, the performance will be held in the Kent Concert Hall at the Chase Fine Arts Center.
