KICKING OFF

Utah State (1-2-0) concludes its brief two-match homestand this week against border-foe Idaho State (2-0-0) on Friday, Sept. 5, in its only match of the week. The Aggies captured their first win of the season on Sunday, Aug. 31, in their home opener at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field against Omaha. Sophomore forward Jessica Brooksby led the way with two goals in the 3-0 victory.

WATCH AND WATCH AGAIN

Once again, all home matches will be stream in conjunction with the Mountain West Network live at www.utahstateaggies.tv. This season, if you missed a match, fans can watch matches on demand as well at http://www.utahstateaggies.tv.

FRIENDLY CONFINES

Utah State has been solid in its home openers, winning its last seven, including the win against Omaha on Aug. 31. Overall, the Aggies are 12-6 in their openers at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field. Last season, USU shut down Creighton, 3-0. Jayne Robison, Kylie Dibb and Jessica Brooksby scored for Utah State.

SERIES HISTORY vs. IDAHO STATE

Border foes Utah State and Idaho State are very familiar with one another. The Aggies lead the overall series 7-5-1. USU has won the last two meeting between the teams, including a dramatic 3-2 win last season in Pocatello. Senior defender Taryn Rose delivered a penalty kick in the 88th minute to give the Aggies the win. The last time that the teams met in Logan, USU had one of its most dominating wins against the Bengals, 6-1, in 2011.

This season, the Bengals are off to a hot start with a 2-0-0 record with wins over Minot State (4-2) and USU's Mountain West rival Wyoming (3-2 OT). Maria Sanchez and Amanda Ellsworth are the leading scorers on the team with three goals and one assist for seven points. Idaho State has scored seven goals, while allowing only four.

SCORING FIRST

There was one big difference between the Aggies win and the two losses in the opening weekend of play. In Utah State's win against Omaha, the Aggies netted the first goal of the match. In losses to No. 23 Arkansas and Missouri State the opponent was the first to capture the lead.

GETTING IN THE GAME

Utah State has played 22 different players in three matches so far this season. Nine different players have started all three matches, including seniors Brooke Larsen-Leavitt, Taryn Rose, Lexie Morgan and Lauren Roundy. Junior goalkeeper Jeannie Woller has also started all three matches with sophomore goalkeeper Sara Cobb seeing her first action as an Aggie against Omaha on Aug. 31.

ROOKIES RULING THE ROOST

Utah State had several freshman see time on the pitch so far this young season. In the first three matches, five different freshmen saw action. Freshmen defender Rachelle Warner has started all three matches for the Aggie defense. Freshman forward Wesley Hamblin has started two matches. Midfielder/defender Bailee Hammond and midfielder/defender Danielle Nowers saw time in both matches, while midfielder/defender Erin Rickenbach played two matches. Sophomore midfielder Katie Flynn also saw her first time in an Aggie uniform after red-shirting last season. Flynn played in both matches and started the match against Missouri State on Aug. 24. Sophomore goalkeeper Sara Cobb also saw her first action against Omaha on Aug. 31.
