David Marek joins USU's athletic program as the video coordinator for men’s basketball.
Utah State University men’s basketball head coach Stew Morrill announced that David Marek has been named video coordinator.
Marek comes to USU after two seasons as video coordinator and graduate assistant coach at Idaho State. He becomes the first full-time USU Video Coordinator. The previous positions have been graduate assistants.
“To keep pace with other Mountain West schools and to meet all the needs of our program, it is very positive that we are now able to move this position to full-time status,” Morrill said. “David is a quality young guy who has a bright future in college basketball, and we are excited to add him to our staff.”
In addition to video coordinator at Idaho State, Marek coordinated team workouts and assisted with academic responsibilities. Marek earned his master’s degree from Idaho State in athletic administration and sport management in the spring of 2014.
“I am extremely excited and thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Aggie family,” Marek said. “What Coach Morrill and his coaching staff have accomplished here at Utah State is nothing short of remarkable, and I am eager to learn every day from one of the best coaches in the country."
A native of Benesov, Czech Republic, Marek played at Southern Utah from 2005-09, leaving his mark in the SUU record books for three-point field goal percentage. He still holds the single-game three-point percentage at a perfect 100.0 percent after going 7-of-7 behind the arc against IUPUI Jan. 29, 2009. Marek is also currently sixth on SUU’s career three-point percentage list at 42.7 percent. Marek is also 10th in single-season three-point percentage (.434) from 2008-09 and also led the Thunderbirds in assists in 2008 and 2009.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from SUU in 2009.
Following his collegiate playing career, Marek played professionally for three seasons in Spain, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He was a member of the Czech Republic National Team from 2008-10 and participated in the NBA program Basketball Without Borders.
