Bio

A native of southern Utah, Dusti McEwen, relocated to USU to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in biological engineering. After graduating with his undergraduate degree, he continued on as a graduate student in biological engineering with an emphasis in biosensors and their applications for bacteria and mammalian cell-line studies. Specific studies include the electrochemical detection of DNA, spectroscopic molecular assignment for bacterial EPS, and real-time drug delivery for the protection of mammalian cells. Dusti understands the challenges associated with remaining at the same university to complete both undergraduate and graduate degrees. In his role as a graduate student he is also married, a father of two boys, and knows the sacrifices a family makes to remain in graduate school. As the Graduate Student Senator for the College of Engineering, his goal is to help inform the graduate students about information and opportunities to make graduate school more rewarding and productive. He is always willing to talk with any student about their academic career at USU.

Initiatives & Goals

  1. Help graduate students receive necessary information from the GSS in a timely manner so that it will be utilized accordingly.
  2. Work to improve interdisciplinary engineering knowledge to aid grad students in research and course work (if applicable).
  3. Encourage grad student collaboration and networking, so that current students will be able to look outside their department and/or committees for help.
