USUSA/SILC Scholarships and Other Awards


Through SILC (Student Involvement and Leadership Center)

Sophomore Scholarship

  • $1000 per semester, Fall 2014, Spring 2015
  • Applications due in March and awarded in April
  • Requirements:
    • Must have demonstrated academic excellence as well as extracurricular involvement during their freshman year at Utah State University.
    • Students must have completed at least 24 USU credits but no more than 45 USU credits (credits received in high school will not be used for consideration).
    • The upcoming fall semester must be the student's third or fourth semester at USU, or the student must have completed at least one full academic year at USU as a full-time student.
    • Students must be a full-time student during the semesters for which they will be receiving the scholarship. Full-time student status is considered as having at least 12 current USU credits. These credits may include online classes and/or classes associated with a pass/fail grading option.
    • If you are receiving any full-tuition USU scholarships for the upcoming academic year, you do not qualify for this scholarship.

Claude J. and Frances Burtenshaw Outstanding Emerging Student Leader Scholarship

  • Three recipients • $840 per semester • Fall 2014, Spring 2015
  • Awarded at USUSA Awards Banquet
  • Requirements:
    • Must be a sophomore or junior.
    • Must have demonstrated outstanding leadership potential in performance of duties.
    • Must have made substantial contributions to the student government thus far in their collegiate career.

Val R. & Ruth Ann Christensen Student Leadership Scholarship

  • One recipient • $665 per semester • Fall 2014, Spring 2015
  • Awarded at USUSA Awards Banquet
  • Requirements:
    • Must be junior or senior.
    • Must have demonstrated leadership involvement in USUSA or any other organization affiliated with USUSA.
    • Must have devoted significant time and initiative to serving the community.
    • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Gary Chambers Endowment

  • One recipient • $875 per semester • Fall 2014, Spring 2015
  • Awarded at USUSA Awards Banquet
  • Requirements:
    • Must have demonstrated leadership involvement in USUSA or any other organization affiliated with USUSA.
    • Must have made significant contributions to USU.
    • Must be committed to continued involvement at the university.

USUSA Student Involvement Scholarship

  • Four recipients • $850.00 per semester • Fall 2014, Spring 2015
  • Awarded at USUSA Awards Banquet
  • Requirements:
    • Must have demonstrated leadership involvement in USUSA or any other organization affiliated with USUSA.
    • Must have made significant contributions to USU.
    • Must be committed to continued involvement at the university.


Greek Scholarships

Amanda Moser Lyons Leadership Scholarship

  • One recipient • $650 per semester • Fall 2013, Spring 2014
  • Awarded at USUSA Awards Banquet
  • Requirements:
    • Must be a member of Alpha Chi Omega
    • Must be a sophomore or junior
    • Must exemplify integrity, leadership, and friendship
    • Must have made significant contributions to Utah State University, Alpha Chi Omega, and the Greek Community
    • Preference will be given to direct descendants of Amanda Moser Lyons

Jeannine Bennett Endowment Scholarship

  • One recipient • $1100.00 for one, $550.00 for two (estimated amounts pending) • Fall 2013, Spring 2014
  • Awarded at USUSA Awards Banquet
  • Requirements:
    • Must be an active member in good standing with Alpha Chi Omega
    • Must be a junior or senior
    • Must be involved in chapter activities and Utah State University student activities
    • Must demonstrate leadership and personal integrity
    • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA


Other Funding

Academic Opportunity Fund

The purpose of the Academic Opportunity Fund (AOF) is to provide financial support to undergraduate students who have been accepted or invited by a reputable organization to present a scholastic achievement or participate in an academic competition.

  • Individual awarded up to $500.00 • Groups awarded up to $2000.00
  • You may apply as early as six months prior to, but no later than four weeks prior to your conference

Graduate Enhancement Awards

The purpose of this award is to support outstanding graduate students at USU who have consistently shown a track record of excellence. We are revising the application to make the award merit-based, as it has historically been need-based. We will provide further updates on these awards and their criteria in the spring semester.

  • Twenty Recipients • $4000.00 award
  • Applications are due in March

Graduate Research and Project Awards

The purpose of this award is to provide funding for exceptional projects and research. While we will take the financial need of the applicants into account, this award will be primarily merit-based and will be awarded to the projects that show the most potential for original research and broader impacts.

  • At least twelve recipients • Up to $1000 award
  • Applications due in November
