Communities may have private museums focusing on specific areas. Museums typically contain: Life sized replicas, dioramas, posters, explanatory information, gift shops, and informed staff.
For example, in Blanding there are two privately funded museums. Huck's Museum, deals with Indian historical artifacts and the Dinosaur Museum contains exhibits of prehistoric dinosaurs and dinosaur movie memorabilia.
The following information illustrates the types of materials that could be found in private museums.
Displays showing pertinent information about the theme of the museum.
Information is presented visually and in text
Gift Shops providing additional
resources in many formats: books, games,
multi-media, videos, kits, clothing, etc.
Informed people who are willing to share resources. Staff members who work at museums are usually very informed, and can provide good information.
Work areas in the museum where the display material is prepared. Most museums have laboratories, and rooms where exhibit are created. Often students can visit these and see scientists at work.
