Elementary Schools are a good place to start basic research on any topic.  Subject matter will be basic and easy to understand. After a basic understanding is reached  further research can then be found at schools of higher levels.

Teachers and faculty
Human resources are abundant at a school.  You will find many people on the staff who are great informants, full of good information.

Text book / work book materials
Simple to understand materials are available at elementary schools.  A good place to start for those who need easier reading materials.

Globe, Elementary SchoolInternet access

Even elementary schools usually have computer labs with Internet connection for research purposes.  You may be able to get permission to use these under a teacher's supervision.

Administrative resources

Administrators have access to data pertaining to school population and demographics.  If your administrator has been at the school for a number of years they can give ongoing trends of school enrollment, as well as historical information about the school itself.

Resource materials

There are other resources located at many elementary schools that are not directly associated with research, but may be used for presentation of materials.  These materials include colored butcher paper, die cuts, laminating services, art materials and supplies. Check with local schools to see what their policy is letting community members use these resources and what cost may be associated with their use.

Evening classes

Many schools also offer evening classes for community members to learn different skills such as basic computing, parenting, make-and-take activities for helping students with reading and math skills etc.  Check at your local school for availability of such classes.
