National History Fair 1998- Washington D.C

In front of the White House Josh Johnson and Michelle and Crystal Lacy earned the privilege of attending the National History Fair in Washington D.C. The event was held during the summer, during the second week of June. After competing in both the region and state events, and placing in the top two places at both competitions, they were selected to attend the national event.  They were also accompanied by Miss Judy Barton, a history teacher from Monticello High School, and two of her students, Kristin Bradford, and Peggy Muhlestein. They arrived in Washington D.C. on June 14, 1998, at the National Airport.
The competition was held in a small suburb of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, on the campus of the University of Maryland.

The first day of the fair was spent touring the sights of Washington D.C.  They visited the Lincoln Monument, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and the Holocaust Museum. After visiting the building with tallest tower in Washington, the Old Post Office, they had a wonderful dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington D.C.
